Membership Categories
Several categories of membership are available. Interested parties must decide on how active they would want to participate in club activities before deciding on their choice of membership.
In the event of a an applicant wanting to be an active falconer, keeping and flying falcons and hawks, associate membership will be considered. After a certain period the associate member will receive full membership status. Where associate membership is granted a membership agreement is agreed upon whereby the associate member and the Boland Falconry Club agree to club terms, conditions.
Applicants for membership shall submit their application forms and a copy of their ID Documents to the Boland Falconry Club Management Committee who will verify their bona fides. If applicants are relocatong as an active falconer from another club a certificate of good standing is required from the departing club indicating membership status, falconers grade and that all fees are paid up with no outstanding disciplinary issues.
In the event of an applicant wanting to be involved with the art of falconry but not physically wanting to keep, fly and hunt trained raptors various alternative forms of membership are available.
Once all details and references are verified an applicant will normally be accepted as Associate Member. In appropriate cases, and only after consideration by the Boland Falconry Club Management Committee an applicant may be directly elected to Full Membership. A Full Member however, shall normally be elected after he has been an Associate Member for three years, and when the Boland Falconry Club Management Committee considers that he/she has acquired competence in training and flying hawks at quarry, in accordance with the Code of Conduct, and has maintained the standards of the Club in all relevant ways.
An Associate Member shall be a person whom the Boland Falconry Club Management Committee considers to be suitable and to have the intention of flying falcons and hawks, in accordance with accepted falconry principles as set out in the Code of Conduct. He or she shall normally remain an Associate Member for three years where after, the Boland Falconry Club Management Committee may on request review his or her status. An Associate Member shall not stand for office, or vote at any business meetings of the Club, but he shall enjoy all other benefits of membership.
To progress from Associate Membership to Full Member an Associate Member must submit the following documents to the Boland Falconry Club Management Committee: -
a. A formal application letter.
b. A written letter of competence from two Full Members; ideally one of whom will be a Boland Falconry Club Management Committee member.
A Full Member: – shall be a person whom the Boland Falconry Club Management Committee considers to be suitable and to have the intention of flying falcons and hawks, in accordance with accepted falconry principles as set out in the Code of Conduct. He or she shall normally have been an Associate Member for three years and approved as by the provisions as set out to progress from a Associate Member to Full Membership. A Full Member may be elected as an office bearer to serve on the Boland Falconry Management Committee and vote at any business meetings of the Club and shall enjoy all benefits of membership.
A Supporter Member shall receive a Newsletter, and can use the Club memorabilia, and be entitled to such other benefits, as the Boland Falconry Management Committee shall, from time to time determine. He/She shall not stand for office, or vote, but may attend any Business Meeting of the Club, and may attend social or field meetings. A Supporter Member who wishes to fly hawks and falcons must apply to become an Associate Member. When a Supporter Member wishes to transgress to Associate Membership the participation as a Supporter Member will be taken into consideration on its own merits.
An Overseas Member shall be permanently resident abroad. When he/she is on a visit to this country, their status shall be that of a Supporter Member. However if the Overseas Member is an active falconer in his/her native country the Boland Falconry Management Committee shall consult the relevant Club regarding the Overseas Member’s status.
Special Overseas Members. Due to the globalization of the world and the fact that people travel and live in more than once country this membership was implemented. This membership is intended for international active falconers that reside abroad, but spend time in the Western Cape, and own property in the Western Cape. Falconry experience and level of participation will be taken into account when evaluating such membership application. These members have no voting rights and are bound by the Special Overseas Membership Agreement with a special Letter of Undertaking. When he/she is on a visit to this country, their status shall be that of a Special Associate Member, but are not allowed through this membership to individually fly and hunt with raptors under falconry conditions. Individually these members they may not own, keep, house any raptors for falconry purposes during their stay in the Western cape and/or individually participate in any active falconry activity without being escorted at all times by a full member of the club, being a A-Grade member, designated to this member. In essence this means that Special Overseas Members will participate in falconry activities only as a guest in the presence of the designated A-Grade full member. The fees applicable will be that of an Overseas Member + Associate Member combined.
The Boland Falconry Club need give no reason for refusing any category of Membership.
